Why Save the Jr High?

Well, why not?

This is a historic and well loved building in the center of Rigby, which is the seat of Jefferson County, Idaho. Many natives tells stories of their many adventures in and around the Jr. High. Over the years, the building has been neglected and is no longer being used as a school.

However, some of us have a dream. This building is big and beautiful and the bones are good. Much of the improvements are cosmetic. We want to see it taken and turned into a community arts and recreation center for anyone to enjoy.  A few things we imagine could be held in this building:

  • Plays and Musicals
  • Recitals
  • Concerts
  • Adult Education Classes
  • Indoor athletic events
  • Dance classes
  • Piano and other musical instrument lessons
  • Basketball
  • Dodgeball
  • Archery
  • Painting
  • Writing clubs
  • Support groups
  • Family reunions
  • Funerals
  • Dances
  • Craft and trade fairs
  • Large town meetings
  • Trainings
  • Emergency lodging for the community
  • Family groups
  • Service groups
  • Private renters
  • Karate
  • Homeschool gatherings
  • Co-ops
  • Test Proctoring
  • Political rallies
  • Animal shelter
  • Drop in after school clubs
I'm sure you can see that the sky is the limit in regards to what we can do with this building.

Something that is of critical importance to this project is that the building will not be owned or run by the city or the county. This will be owned by the community. No taxes will go into operating the building. We are going to have to come together and give what we can to make this dream a reality. We want to be transparent at all times and we need you to pay attention, give us ideas and come out and do the work to make this dream a reality.

Our community needs you.

Be the change.
